Find Kent County Booking Photos

Kent County jail mugshots are handled as part of the adult booking record when the jail chooses to display a photo in the public roster. A search to find Kent County booking photos should start with the county jail roster, then move to the sheriff records process if the person is not listed or the photo is not shown. Booking photos are not proof of conviction. They are one field in a custody record, and access can differ for current jail custody, older bookings, state prison profiles, federal custody, and immigration detention.

Kent County Jail Mugshots

Kent County's official inmate lookup page states that Jail Viewer may include mugshot images and personal descriptive information configured by the correctional facility. The public booking sample reviewed during research showed an embedded front-facing photo on the detail page, with a click-to-enlarge control. The photo appeared with age, sex, race, hair, eyes, height, and weight. That means Kent County jail mugshots can be visible in Web Jail Viewer, but the county does not promise a photo for every booking.

The adult booking-photo path belongs to Kent County Correctional Facility and the Sheriff's Office records process. The Kent County Juvenile Detention Center is not part of the adult mugshot search, and juvenile records are more restricted. The county also did not document a daily mugshot gallery, a recent-bookings photo feed, or an app-only mugshot tool. The Kent County Sheriff's Office app is documented as a reporting and resource app, not as an official roster replacement.

Find Kent County Booking Photos

The best way to find a current Kent County booking photo is to search Web Jail Viewer, open the booking detail, and check whether the facility has displayed a mugshot image for that record. The search should begin with the complete last name, then use first name or booking-date fields to narrow the result. If a person is not listed, the photo is missing, or the booking is older, the sheriff's Records Unit and FOIA process are the official fallback channels.

  1. Open the county Inmate Lookup page, then use its Web Jail Viewer link.
  2. Search by complete last name. Add first name or booking dates when the result list is too broad.
  3. Open the selected booking detail and look for the embedded booking image near the descriptive fields.
  4. If no photo appears or the person has been released, contact the Records Unit at 616-632-6200 or submit a Kent County FOIA request.
  5. Use the inmate information line at 616-632-6300, option 1, when custody status may have changed before the public roster updated.

The Jail Viewer landing page is the public roster gateway for people booked at KCCF. The Kent County Web Jail Viewer landing notice explains public booking access and possible displayed fields.

The landing notice is important because it frames the mugshot as part of a facility-configured booking profile, not as a separate photo archive.

Kent County Booking Photo Fields

A Kent County booking photo is shown, when available, inside the same public inmate profile that carries the booking and charge data. The research sample displayed a 120 by 160 front-facing image with click-to-enlarge. It also displayed the person's name, in-custody status, booking number, inmate ID, booking date, physical descriptors, charge count, charge status, arrest agency, arrest date, court fields, bond fields, fine fields, pay-or-stay indicator, and holds.

FieldWhat It Shows
Booking PhotoFront-facing image on the public detail page when the facility displays one.
Name and StatusProfile heading and a custody-status label such as in custody with a date.
Booking IdentifiersBooking number, inmate ID, and booking date.
Physical DescriptionAge, sex, race, hair, eyes, height, and weight beside the image.
ChargesViolation text, charge status, arrest agency, and arrest date.
Court and Bond FieldsDistrict or circuit court fields, case numbers, required bond or bail, fine amount, and holds.

A mugshot should be read with the whole booking record. A posted image does not prove the person was convicted, and a missing image does not prove the person was never booked. The county's own language says the information may include mugshot images, so the public result can vary by booking.

Kent County Mugshot Records Law

Michigan sources reviewed did not identify a single county-jail-mugshot publication statute that requires every local jail photo to be posted online. Instead, Kent County mugshots and booking-photo requests are handled through Michigan public-records rules and local sheriff records practice. The Sheriff's Records page is the most direct county source because it says the Records Division handles inmate records including mugshots, fingerprints, and personal details.

Key Statutes:

MCL 15.231 says people are entitled to full and complete information about government affairs and official acts, subject to exemptions.

MCL 15.233 gives a person the right to inspect, copy, or receive copies of nonexempt public records from a public body.

MCL 15.234 allows permitted labor, copy, mailing, and deposit fees, with some waiver rules for qualifying requesters.

That public-records framework does not make every photo visible online. Kent County may withhold records under FOIA exemptions and exclusions, and the county roster is designed for public booking access configured by the correctional facility.

Kent County Mugshot Availability

The research did not locate an official Kent County rule stating a fixed number of hours or days that a jail mugshot remains online after release. The inmate lookup page leads with people currently held at the Kent County Correctional Facility, and the public Web Jail Viewer is best understood as a current or recent booking tool rather than a historical mugshot archive. Older photos and released-person booking records should be requested through records channels when they are not visible online.

What is and isn't public: The public may see a booking photo when Jail Viewer displays one for an adult KCCF booking. The county does not promise all photos online, and older or nonpublic records may require a Records Unit or FOIA review.

The Records Unit page is the local source that names mugshots as part of inmate-record handling. The Kent County Sheriff's Records page describes records checks, FOIA, ICHAT references, and inmate-record work.

That records route is the correct fallback when the public jail roster does not show the booking photo sought.

Request Kent County Booking Photos

A booking-photo request should be specific. Include the person's full name, date of birth if known, booking date or arrest date, arresting agency, booking number, court case number if known, and a clear statement that the request seeks the booking photo or booking record. The Sheriff's Records Unit main office is at 701 Ball Avenue NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49503. The phone number is 616-632-6200, and posted office hours are Monday-Friday, 9 am to 5 pm.

Kent County FOIA requests may be submitted through the online FOIA portal or by mail, fax, hand delivery, verbally, or in writing to the department that may possess the record. Written or online requests are easier to track. The county response time is five business days, with a possible ten-business-day extension. Fees may include labor, copies, postage, and shipping, and the county may require a deposit when an estimated fee exceeds $50.

The county FOIA page summarizes the request process and portal. The Kent County FOIA instructions explain response timing, request methods, inspection rights, and fee policy.

FOIA does not guarantee release of every requested image, but it is the official review process for nonexempt county records.

Kent County Mugshot Removal

The local research did not find a Kent County mugshot-removal page for public Web Jail Viewer images. The practical route depends on the reason for the request. If the issue is an error in a booking record, contact the Records Unit. If the issue is a sealed, nonpublic, dismissed, diverted, or set-aside court record, the court process controls what becomes restricted in public court searches. Michigan's set-aside statute, MCL 780.621, covers eligible conviction set-aside applications and limits.

Clearing a court record is not the same as deleting every booking reference from every system. Court restrictions, jail records, state criminal-history records, and third-party copies are different problems. For the court side, use the charge, conviction, sealed, and expunged distinctions on the Kent County court records after jail arrest page. For an official jail record, use the sheriff records or FOIA channel and describe the exact record and reason for review.

State and Federal Photos

State prison photos are not Kent County jail mugshots. MDOC OTIS may show offender photos for sentenced prisoners, parolees, probationers, absconders, or recent MDOC discharges, but that profile is a prison or supervision record. OTIS does not contain complete criminal history, jail-only stays, out-of-state crimes, or information exempt under FOIA. A person sentenced from Kent County to prison should be searched in OTIS after transfer, not in Web Jail Viewer as if the county jail still held the person.

Federal and immigration systems are also separate. The BOP locator searches federal prisoners and historical federal records after 1982, but it is not a county mugshot gallery. ICE ODLS is a custody locator for immigration detention by A-number or biographic information, not a public booking-photo site. If a Kent County booking record shows a hold, detainer, or federal-related issue, confirm custody through the correct federal or immigration channel rather than relying on the county mugshot field alone.
